SOUNDTRACK: Michael Bublè, Let it snow
Hello everyone! Yes, I know. I chose a classic for telling you something about my personal Christmas waiting. But there is always a good reason to listen to Michael Bublè. For those who live in Europe or don't live in US anyway: usually in my country we start thinking about Christmas with the upcoming of the Advent. It's linked to our religious way of living this peculiar time of the year (that I LOVE). Advent is that period 4 weeks before Christmas and it is part of the liturgical Christian year. I am not THAT religious but is the way I grew up and if I just close my eyes for a sec I can live all over again: the latin novena, the lights, the nativity scene... it's just magic all around me. Ok... here Christmas begins in late November... without any sense. Of course remember where I am living...why should be any spiritual sense?! Why should people be just pathetic catholics when they can built up the best kitsch Christmas of the world? So come on in! I have never seen something like this in my whole life: like Tiffany in New York City:
was the third week of November and there where decorations everywhere, the open ice rink in different part of the cities, the Christmas village at Love Park in Philly
, the red ribbons, the wreaths in EVERY DOOR of the old city. Don't take this in the wrong way...I loved it and see all the training...wow!
Everything was glowing in that days... even when I ran outside I was not able to feel the cold, I was just too much distracted by the shining squares and the decorations all around.
So we decided to take part in the whole process. We started in North Carolina during our beloved Thanksgiving trip. We felt the excitement when we bought Benjamin, our elegant tree. We stopped in the middle of nowere in one of those "choose and cut" wondering how the thing would ended up. And they just let us choose the right tree, our perfect match and then they had fastened to our car roof ready to come back to Penn.
But that was not enogh. Sometimes I think that I'm becoming just like them for some things...like in this case. We started this idea of decorating all together the Christmas tree just me and the girls, with our embarassing brand new Christmas hats but then... why not a party? In order to not be too much Americans...WITHOUT BEER PONG! But still, was something that we felt to do all together (with all the guys that are living here with us), this desire to share something in this part of the year so special for me for more than one reason. This is all about Christmas as a matter of fact don't you think? making cookies for your friends..decorating with weird stuff your own tree, deciding if you prefer white Christmas lights or the coloured ones. As you all already knows we decided to call our tree Benjamin, because it was supposed to be elegant.
At the end of the story maybe he (yes, it's a he) was not but was fantastic for sure and we could feel like was already Christmas, so far from we were used to celebrate.
